Truth Begins With Jehovah’s Own Character

To say that God is truth means that Jehovah is the ultimate, unchanging, personal source and standard of all truth. Truth is not above Him, outside Him, or invented by human agreement. It rests on Jehovah’s character, His acts in history, His fulfilled promises, and His inspired Word.

Because Christ was raised, the resurrection of those who belong to Him is certain. John 11:25 records Jesus saying He is the resurrection and the life. Speech must reflect His honesty. Hope must rest on His promises. Evangelism must proclaim His gospel. Relationships must be governed by His standards. The mind must be renewed by His truth.

A person cannot rightly say “God is truth” while treating Scripture as optional. He cannot say “God is truth” while living by lies. He cannot say “God is truth” while accepting doctrines that contradict the Word. He cannot say “God is truth” while hiding sin in darkness. First John 1:6 says that if people say they have fellowship with God while walking in darkness, they lie and do not practice the truth. Therefore, God is truth means Jehovah is the unchanging source, standard, speaker, and defender of truth. His Son embodies truth. His Holy Spirit inspired the truth of Scripture. His Word measures every claim. His people must live truthfully. His promises are certain. His judgments are righteous. His gospel is reliable. His Kingdom will replace the lies of this present wicked world with the righteous order of the new heavens and new earth.
