“Trust in Jehovah forever, for Jehovah God is an everlasting rock.” —Isaiah 26:4
From the earliest pages of Scripture to the final revelation given to John, the call for God’s people to place their complete trust in Jehovah has been unwavering. As we approach the closing scenes of this present world order, the need for steadfast trust in God becomes ever more pressing. In Isaiah 26:4, the inspired prophet uses the imagery of an “everlasting rock” to describe Jehovah, stressing His unchanging reliability, strength, and permanence. The contrast is unmistakable: while human institutions collapse, while demonic forces intensify their attacks, and while human imperfection brings about escalating hardship, Jehovah remains immovable, unassailable, and eternally faithful to His promises.
Trust Anchored in the Character of Jehovah
Trust in Jehovah is not blind credulity, nor is it a matter of shallow optimism. Biblical trust is founded upon the revealed character of God as displayed in His Word. Throughout history, Jehovah has consistently demonstrated His attributes: His love, justice, wisdom, and power. Each of these qualities assures His people that they are never abandoned, even as the end of this wicked age draws near.
When Isaiah declared that Jehovah is an “everlasting rock,” he appealed to imagery familiar in the ancient Near East. A rock or mountain represented permanence, security, and refuge. Unlike shifting sand or decaying wood, a rock endures against weathering forces. Spiritually, Jehovah embodies this stability in a world that is morally and politically unstable. As empires rise and fall, as philosophies change, and as human leaders prove treacherous, Jehovah alone stands unshaken.
This trust is not passive. To “trust in Jehovah forever” means actively committing one’s life, decisions, and hopes into His care, knowing that He will never betray or abandon those who cling to Him in faith.

Trust in Jehovah as the End Approaches
Jesus Christ foretold in Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21 that the last days would be marked by war, lawlessness, betrayal, deception, and persecution. The apostle Paul expanded on this by describing the last days as perilous times when men would be lovers of themselves, greedy, arrogant, unholy, disobedient, and without natural affection (2 Timothy 3:1–5). These descriptions closely align with the moral climate of our own age.
As the end draws near, Satan intensifies his activity. Revelation 12:12 reveals that Satan, knowing his time is short, brings great wrath upon the earth. This demonic hostility manifests in the escalation of violence, deception, immorality, and spiritual apathy. In such an environment, human trust in governments, institutions, or even self-sufficiency proves vain. Only trust in Jehovah, rooted in His Word, provides stability and hope.
The closing book of the Bible presents a sobering yet encouraging vision. Revelation 21 describes the new heavens and the new earth, where Jehovah will wipe away every tear, and death will be no more. Trusting in Jehovah now is a declaration of allegiance to His coming Kingdom, not to the transient powers of this world.

Trust Strengthened by God’s Word
The foundation of unshakable trust is Scripture itself. Romans 10:17 affirms that faith comes by hearing the word of Christ. Faith is not generated by feelings, mystical experiences, or human speculation; it is cultivated by immersing oneself in the inspired record of Jehovah’s dealings.
Psalm 119 repeatedly emphasizes the reliability of God’s Word as a source of wisdom, comfort, and assurance. Verse 105 declares, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” As the end draws near, the world is plunged into spiritual darkness, but the lamp of Scripture guides the faithful.
Furthermore, trust in Jehovah must be expressed in obedience. Proverbs 3:5–6 commands, “Trust in Jehovah with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” Trusting God means surrendering self-reliance, choosing to walk in obedience even when the world pressures believers to compromise.

The Rock of Salvation in Christ
While Isaiah called Jehovah the everlasting rock, the New Testament reveals Christ as the foundation stone upon which faith must rest. In Matthew 7:24–25, Jesus compared the wise man to one who built his house upon the rock, withstanding storms and floods. That rock is obedience to Christ’s teachings. The apostle Paul likewise identified Christ as the spiritual rock that provided sustenance to Israel in the wilderness (1 Corinthians 10:4).
Trust in Jehovah and trust in His Son are inseparable. Jesus stated in John 14:1, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.” In the climactic struggles of the end, loyalty to Christ will be tested, and only those whose lives are built upon Him will endure.

Trust Displayed in Endurance
Trust is not merely professed; it is demonstrated in endurance. Hebrews 10:36 emphasizes that Christians need endurance to receive what has been promised. Endurance is not passive waiting but active perseverance in doing God’s will despite hardship, temptation, or persecution.
The early church modeled this trust. In Acts 4 and 5, the apostles, despite threats and imprisonment, boldly proclaimed Christ, declaring that obedience to God must take precedence over obedience to men. Their courage was not rooted in self-confidence but in absolute trust in Jehovah’s sovereignty and promises.
So too, Christians today must prepare for intensified opposition. Revelation 13 portrays the beastly political powers of the last days demanding worship and allegiance. Those who refuse will face economic sanctions, persecution, or death. Only those whose trust is firmly anchored in Jehovah as the everlasting rock will remain faithful to the end.

The Eternal Reward of Those Who Trust
The end is not merely destruction but renewal. For the faithful, trust in Jehovah culminates in eternal reward. Jesus promised in Matthew 24:13, “The one who has endured to the end is the one who will be saved.” The righteous will inherit everlasting life on a restored earth under Christ’s Kingdom rule (Psalm 37:29; Revelation 21:1–4).
Jehovah, the everlasting rock, will vindicate His name, destroy His enemies, and bring peace to the earth. Those who trust Him now, as the end draws near, will be rewarded with the stability, security, and joy of everlasting life in a righteous world.
