Will You Search for the Truth That Leads to Everlasting Life?

Why Should We Seek Truth Amid Growing Confusion?

Throughout the history of humanity, many have struggled to know what is true. From Pontius Pilate’s memorable question, “What is truth?” (John 18:38), to the modern denial of absolute standards, the world has experienced a constant challenge to the very notion of truth. Ancient philosophers debated whether anyone could know truth, and many contemporary voices insist that truth is relative. Yet, Scripture testifies that truth does exist, and that knowing it can transform one’s life. Jesus Christ said, “If you remain in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32) The quest for truth is central to the Christian faith. We must ask ourselves: Are we willing to search for truth amid a world that questions everything?

The Bible teaches that truth is not subjective or malleable. It reveals that the Creator of heaven and earth is “the God of truth” (Psalm 31:5), who has made known His will through His inspired Word. (2 Timothy 3:16-17) The truth found in Scripture shows that humans were created to serve God, that suffering and death entered due to sin, and that God has a plan for rescuing mankind from imperfection and corruption. Knowing these truths helps us navigate a confused world, enabling us to align ourselves with God’s purposes. We live in an era with 41,000 different Christian denominations—each presenting differing doctrines—causing many to doubt that any final truth can be known. Such religious confusion stems not from the Holy Spirit or from God’s design, but from human misinterpretation, neglect of sound principles of interpretation, and the infiltration of worldly philosophies into the church.

Despite the doubts and contradictory teachings, the quest for truth is not futile. Jesus was born and came into the world “to testify to the truth.” (John 18:37) Those who are “of the truth” listen to his voice and find their faith anchored in God’s unchanging message. The Bible assures us that genuine truth does not shift with cultural trends or philosophical debates. Rather, it stands firm, reflecting the stable and righteous character of our heavenly Father.

How Has Relativism Challenged Absolute Truth?

For centuries, relativism—the belief that truth depends on the individual or culture—has undermined the confidence of many who seek unchanging standards. Relativism asserts that moral and spiritual truths evolve, leaving each person to determine right and wrong. This has led to ethical chaos and confusion. Those influenced by relativism reject the Bible’s absolute moral teachings, claiming these are outdated or oppressive.

The apostle Paul wrote about those who knew God’s truth but chose to suppress it, becoming futile in their thinking. (Romans 1:20-23) They exchanged God’s truth for a lie and worshiped creation rather than the Creator. This ancient pattern continues today: many, influenced by secular thought, treat Scripture’s absolutes as negotiable. Yet, rejecting absolute truth leads not to freedom, but to greater moral and spiritual bondage. Without a firm foundation, societies drift. God’s Word stands as an anchor, telling us that “the sum of your word is truth” (Psalm 119:160), and that truth brings stability.

Relativism fails the test of consistency. Even those who claim all truth is relative often insist that relativism itself is absolutely true for everyone, thus contradicting their premise. If we are honest, we know certain truths cannot be relative. The existence of God, the resurrection of Christ, and the moral demands laid out in Scripture are either true or false. They cannot be true for one person and false for another. Jesus said, “Your word is truth” (John 17:17), meaning that Scripture discloses reality as it truly is, not merely as we might imagine.

Can We Trust the Bible’s Claim to Truth?

The Bible consistently affirms its divine origin and reliability. Paul wrote, “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness.” (2 Timothy 3:16) God, who cannot lie (Titus 1:2), guided the Bible’s writers so that what they recorded is accurate and authoritative. The unified message, penned by over forty authors across 1,600 years, stands without contradiction. This internal harmony, the survival and influence of the text, and its historical and archaeological confirmations offer strong reasons to trust its assertions.

The Mosaic Law, given to Israel, was not a flawed or partial truth but a shadow of greater realities revealed in Christ. (Hebrews 10:1) Jesus, the Son of God, brought the fullness of truth, completing the picture begun in the Old Testament. (John 1:17; Colossians 2:16-17) He confirmed that his teaching and life fulfilled the prophetic Scriptures, guaranteeing that God’s Word aligns perfectly with God’s unfolding plan. “For all the promises of God find their Yes in him.” (2 Corinthians 1:20) Thus, Christ’s arrival demonstrated the reliability of the Bible’s prophecies, reinforcing its standing as truth.

If we hold Scripture in high esteem, we must also respect that it discloses God’s purposes in both judgment and salvation. God revealed future blessings such as a restored earth, the end of pain, suffering, and death, and the hope of resurrection. (Revelation 21:3-4) These promises are not mere wishful thinking. They rest on God’s veracity. As a result, the Christian faith is not a blind leap but a confident trust in a God who has always kept His Word.

Does Jesus Offer the Only Path to Salvation?

In a world that prizes religious pluralism and inclusivity, many find Jesus’ claim exclusive: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6) This statement conflicts with the modern desire to affirm every belief system as equally valid. Yet, if truth is absolute, and if Jesus truly is the unique Son of God who died to redeem humanity, then no other approach to God can suffice.

Adam’s rebellion brought sin and death into the world. (Romans 5:12) Human effort or wisdom cannot fix this problem. Only a perfect sacrifice could atone for sin, and Jesus offered himself as that ransom. (Matthew 20:28; 1 Timothy 2:5-6) Because of Christ’s death and resurrection, God can reconcile repentant sinners to Himself. This message—the gospel—is exclusive in the sense that there is only one name under heaven by which we must be saved. (Acts 4:12)

This exclusivity does not reflect narrow-mindedness or cruelty on God’s part. Instead, it highlights the depth of His love. He provided a single, all-sufficient remedy for sin’s curse. To reject Jesus is to reject the only pathway to eternal fellowship with the Father. For those who trust in Christ, the reward is immeasurable: eternal life, forgiveness of sins, and adoption into God’s family. These are not vague promises but true realities grounded in God’s nature and oath.

How Do We Know We Are Walking in the Truth?

Embracing truth involves more than intellectual assent. James wrote, “Faith apart from works is dead.” (James 2:26) Authentic faith in Christ, who is truth embodied, must manifest in a changed life. (Ephesians 4:20-24; Colossians 3:8-10) We show our love for God and His truth by obeying His commandments, by showing kindness, love, and mercy to others, and by remaining steadfast against worldly pressures. (1 John 2:3-4)

Walking in the truth means living according to God’s standards, not our own. Jesus said, “If you remain in my word, you are truly my disciples.” (John 8:31) A disciple of Jesus continually immerses himself in Scripture. This ongoing study shapes our worldview, affecting how we think, speak, and act. We break free from sinful habits because the truth renews our minds and hearts. (Romans 12:2; Ephesians 4:23-24)

Our growth in truth also involves prayer, fellowship with other believers, and humble submission to God’s will. We do not simply absorb truth; we let it guide every decision. The Holy Spirit, working through the inspired Word, instructs and supports us. While we do not receive miraculous revelations as the apostles did, the Spirit still uses Scripture to enlighten and strengthen us. The Word of God stands as the Spirit’s chief instrument in guiding believers today.

Are We Called to Defend and Share the Truth?

Christians are not called to hoard the truth for themselves. Jesus commanded that we “make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19-20), urging others to discover this life-giving truth. Paul referred to himself and his co-workers as “ambassadors for Christ.” (2 Corinthians 5:20) We too serve as God’s representatives, pleading with others to be reconciled to Him.

This responsibility is both a privilege and a challenge. We live in a skeptical age. Many dismiss the Bible’s moral teachings and mock the idea of absolute truth. Yet, we must continue to testify boldly. The early Christians needed courage, and we must also. Where can we find this courage? Through prayer, reliance on God, and immersion in Scripture. There is no shortcut. As we become more certain of the truth, our witness becomes more confident and compassionate.

Peter wrote, “Always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you.” (1 Peter 3:15) This does not require miracles or new revelations. It requires serious study, reflection, and prayer. As we mine Scripture’s depths, we gain clarity. We must handle the Word accurately, avoiding the distortions of untaught teachers. The Spirit helps us discern sound doctrine from error, not by new revelations, but by illuminating what is already written.

Will Embracing Truth Truly Set Us Free?

Jesus promised that knowing the truth would bring freedom. (John 8:32) Freedom from what? Sin’s power, Satan’s lies, and the fear of death. Those who fail to accept truth remain enslaved by error, moral confusion, and spiritual darkness. The believer who embraces divine revelation finds hope and liberation. Death no longer terrifies them because the promise of the resurrection is assured. (John 5:28-29)

The Christian life, grounded in truth, offers much more than intellectual satisfaction. It provides moral and spiritual stability. Scripture guards us from following every fad or false teacher. It shapes our character, making us more like Christ. It directs our steps, ensuring we avoid pitfalls and live wisely. Thus, truth is not a burdensome set of rules but a gracious guide leading to abundant life.

God’s will has always been that people be saved and come to an accurate knowledge of truth. (1 Timothy 2:4) He gave us His Word, and He will not mislead us. When we align our beliefs and behavior with the Bible, we honor God and enjoy a deeper relationship with Him. Even in adversity, we stand firm because our faith is anchored in eternal realities, not human opinions.

Will You Let God’s Truth Transform Your Life?

As we reflect on the question, “Will you search for the truth that leads to everlasting life?” we must acknowledge that the answer requires action. If truth is absolute and God’s Word is truth, we must adjust our lives accordingly. We cannot treat Christianity as a casual interest or a cultural identity. True discipleship demands earnest seeking, consistent study, prayer, and obedience. The reward is immeasurable: reconciliation with God, the joy of doing His will, and ultimately, everlasting life on a renewed earth under the perfect governance of His Kingdom. (Revelation 21:3-4; Matthew 5:5; Romans 8:18-21)

Those who reject the truth fail to realize what they forfeit. They remain under God’s wrath (John 3:36), slaves to sin (John 8:34), groping in darkness. But Jesus extends mercy: He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. By trusting Him, we gain a glorious future and meaningful present. By embracing truth, we restore the image of God in ourselves, becoming the people we were designed to be.

REASONING WITH OTHER RELIGIONS

In a world where many ask, “What is truth?” we have found the answer in Jesus Christ and the Scriptures. Truth is not elusive, nor is it beyond our grasp. The Father has drawn near to us. We must now draw near to Him. (James 4:8) We begin by humbly acknowledging that the Bible is not just a human book but God’s message. We pray for understanding, diligently compare Scripture with Scripture, and seek the counsel of mature believers. By doing so, we build our faith on a solid foundation, prepared to face a world of competing claims.

May we choose to remain in the truth, grow in understanding, stand firm against falsehood, and share the good news that God’s Word can save, sanctify, and lead us to eternal life. Let the truth govern our hearts, and may we find full freedom in Christ.
