Daily Devotional – Psalm 25:14

Read the Text

“The confidential talk of Jehovah is with those who fear him, and he will make known to them his covenant.”

The Meaning in Context

Psalm 25 is the prayer of a believer who wants guidance, forgiveness, and steadfastness. Verse 14 reveals a covenant reality: Jehovah does not treat all people the same. He is kind to all in His common goodness, but He shares “confidential talk” with those who fear Him. The fear of Jehovah is not terror that drives you away; it is reverent submission that draws you near. It is worship that takes God seriously enough to obey.

“Confidential talk” is intimate instruction—Jehovah’s faithful disclosure of His ways, His promises, and His expectations. This is not secret mystical knowledge. It is covenant clarity given through God’s revealed Word, received by a humble, obedient heart. The second line anchors it: “he will make known to them his covenant.” Those who fear Jehovah understand His covenant dealings. They grasp His holiness, His mercy, His commands, and His redemption. They learn to think covenantally—God-centered, promise-shaped, obedience-driven.

This verse is spiritual warfare against pride. Satan’s first tactic is to get man to stop fearing Jehovah. Once reverence collapses, discernment collapses. But where the fear of Jehovah is cultivated, the believer becomes stable, teachable, and protected from deception.

Living It Today

If you want closeness with God, cultivate the fear of Jehovah. That begins with submitting to Scripture. When the Bible speaks, you obey. You do not negotiate. You do not reshape commands to fit preferences. This is where many believers stall: they want guidance while clinging to a favorite sin. Jehovah does not share covenant intimacy with a rebel.

Make room for “confidential talk” by practicing quiet, unhurried Bible meditation. Not just reading for information, but reading to obey. Ask: What does this reveal about Jehovah’s character? What command must I keep? What promise must I trust? What sin must I confess? The fear of Jehovah is shown in concrete choices.

This verse also corrects loneliness. A faithful Christian may be isolated socially, yet never abandoned. Jehovah shares His covenant truth with those who fear Him. You may not have crowds, but you have communion with God through His Word, and that is stronger than the world’s approval.

Prayerful Focus

Jehovah, deepen in me the fear that leads to obedience. Teach me Your ways through Your Word. Make Your covenant promises and commands clear to me, and guard me from pride and deception.
