EDWARD D. ANDREWS (AS in Criminal Justice, BS in Religion, MA in Biblical Studies, and MDiv in Theology) is CEO and President of Christian Publishing House. He has authored over 200+ books. In addition, Andrews is the Chief Translator of the Updated American Standard Version (UASV).
This author believes in a literal interpretation of the Bible and would say that Adam and Eve were expelled from the Garden of Eden shortly after they disobeyed God’s command and ate from the forbidden tree, as described in the Book of Genesis. The Bible doesn’t give this event a specific date or time frame. However, some attempt to calculate a date for this event using the genealogical information provided in the Bible, which would place the expulsion of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden around 6,000 to 8,000 years ago.
Andrews believes in “creative days” instead of literal 24-hour days as an interpretation of the creation account in the Bible that is often referred to as an Old Earth Creationist. He interprets the “days” mentioned in the Book of Genesis as unknown periods of time rather than literal 24-hour periods.
This interpretation suggests that the days in the creation account represent long periods of time, possibly millions or billions of years, during which God created and shaped the world and all life on it. This view is supported by scientific evidence that the Earth and the universe are much older than 6,000 to 10,000 years old and that the process of creation and evolution took millions of years.
This interpretation allows Andrews to reconcile his belief in the literal truth of the Bible with scientific evidence of the age of the Earth and the universe. It also allows him to interpret the creation account as creation periods and God’s ongoing work in the world rather than a literal 24 creation days. This does not negate the fact that Adam and Eve were expelled from the Garden of Eden around 6,000 to 8,000 years ago.
The quote from Edmund Burke, “Man is by his constitution a religious animal,” suggests that humans have an innate inclination towards religion, that is, an instinctive need to worship and connect with a higher power or authority. This idea is supported by the statement from New Encyclopædia Britannica that scholars have not found any society throughout history that was not religious in some sense.
Religion has existed since the beginning of mankind and coincided with Adam’s creation, according to Bible chronology. Religion is not something that developed over time but is a fundamental aspect of human nature. The theory of evolution has of late met with severe setbacks, even from its own supporters. The idea of evolution is not supported, and the creation account in the Bible is more accurate.
The Bible’s account of a common origin for mankind has been a topic of debate for centuries. However, recent scientific findings have revealed that the Bible’s explanation may be more accurate than previously thought. A Newsweek article reported that geneticists have come to the consensus that modern humans originated from a single mother. This is supported by the statements of Harvard paleontologist S. J. Gould, who states that “all human beings, despite differences in external appearance, are really members of a single entity that’s had a very recent origin in one place.” He goes on to emphasize that “there is a kind of biological brotherhood that’s much more profound than we ever realized.”
These scientific discoveries provide evidence that supports the accuracy of the Bible’s explanation of human origins. Furthermore, it also suggests that there is no reason to doubt the Bible’s explanation of how religious conflict began. This means that the Bible’s account of a common origin for mankind, which has been a source of debate, is now backed by scientific evidence, providing a deeper understanding of the human race and the origins of religious conflict.
Religion Became Divided
The Encyclopedia of Religion highlights the striking similarities that exist among almost all known religions. Despite variations in detail, many religious beliefs appear to be universal. One such example is the belief that mankind fell from an original position of divine favor. This belief is present in many religions and suggests that there may be a common origin for these beliefs. Additionally, many religions also hold the belief that death is unnatural and that sacrifice is necessary to regain divine favor. These shared beliefs provide strong circumstantial evidence that today’s religions have a common origin.
The Bible provides a detailed explanation of how the emergence of different religions came about. According to the Bible, the first man and woman rejected God’s guidance and direction, choosing instead to seek guidance and counsel from another source. This source, represented by the serpent in the Bible, is later revealed to be Satan, who had rebelled against God. As a result of this independent course of action, mankind moved away from theocratic rule and established their own standards for determining good and evil.
As explained in the Bible, this rebellion set mankind on a course that led to the emergence of many different religions, all of which constitute false worship in contrast to the true worship practiced by Jehovah’s faithful followers throughout history. The beneficiary of this false worship is none other than Satan, who has been the real sponsor of this new religion. As the apostle Paul writes, “No, I imply that what pagans sacrifice they offer to demons and not to God. I do not want you to be participants with demons.” (1 Corinthians 10:20)
Thus, the Bible explains that Adam’s rebellion initiated a second form of worship that placed the creature ahead of the Creator. The real sponsor of this new religion was Satan, who had appointed himself as the new “god.” (2 Corinthians 4:4; 1 John 5:19) Therefore, the Bible’s account of the emergence of different religions is rooted in the rebellion of Adam and Eve, which led to the establishment of false worship and the emergence of Satan as the sponsor of this new religion.
The Bible explains that in the early days of mankind, Adam and Eve’s two sons, Cain and Abel, both offered sacrifices to the Creator, indicating that they were both religious. However, the subsequent course of events revealed that they were not united in their religious beliefs. This became apparent when God accepted Abel’s sacrifice but rejected Cain’s. This rejection caused Cain to become angry and ultimately led to him murdering his brother. This was the first instance of religious hatred and violence in human history, and unfortunately, it would not be the last. Many modern-day conflicts are related to religious disputes.
As time passed, people began to use the name of God profanely and in a debased way. This led to the emergence of idolatry and false religion. These false religions, often characterized by hypocrisy and idolatry, have been prevalent ever since. The prophet Enoch even predicted the rise of false religion and idolatry in his time, and his prophecy was fulfilled in the second millennium of human history.
False religion, prevalent in the days of Noah, had led to a majority of people becoming wicked and violent. God decided to bring a flood to destroy these people, and only a small group of true believers, led by Noah and his family, were saved under God’s protection. The flood clearly identified which religious system was true and which was false. The Bible’s account of this event serves as evidence for the existence of a global flood and the emergence of false religion in ancient times.
The Future of Religion and Your Future
The study of religion’s past is crucial because it enables individuals to distinguish between the two main types of religion: one acceptable to the Creator and one not. A person needs to align their religious views with the Creator’s to gain their approval. As human beings are inherently religious, it is important to approach the study of religion’s past with an open mind and a receptive heart.
When examining a particular religion, it is important to consider whether its teachings are clear, logical, and understandable. One should also consider the religion’s accomplishments and its impact on society. For example, does the religion draw its members closer to the Creator by encouraging obedience to his commands, or does it allow for the creation of individual standards of conduct? Does the religion promote unity and peace among humanity, or does it incite disunity and violence?
These questions can aid in distinguishing between the one original religion introduced by the Creator and the many counterfeit religions introduced by his adversary. It is also important to consider the role of religion in the current moral breakdown and collapse of ethics. The following article will further explore this topic.
Similarities Between the Ancient World Religions and the Global Flood of Noah
There are several similarities between the ancient world religions and the global flood story, as told in the Bible. One of the most notable similarities is the idea of a great flood that destroyed the world and a small group of people who were saved by a divine figure. This flood story can be found in the ancient Mesopotamian epic of Gilgamesh, as well as in the religious texts of ancient Egypt, Greece, and China.

Another similarity is the idea of a single, powerful deity who is responsible for creating and maintaining the world. In many ancient religions, this deity is also responsible for sending a flood to destroy the world but sparing a chosen few to repopulate the earth.
Additionally, many ancient religions have creation stories that involve a cosmic battle between a god and a chaos monster. This battle is often seen as a representation of the forces of good and evil and can be seen as a parallel to the biblical story of Satan’s rebellion against God.
Finally, many ancient religions have a belief in a future judgment day, where a divine being will judge the souls of the dead, and the righteous will be rewarded with eternal life while the wicked will be punished. This belief is also present in the Bible, where God is said to judge the living and the dead.
Overall, the similarities between the ancient world religions and the global flood story in the Bible suggest that the flood story may have been a widespread belief among ancient cultures and that it has been passed down through the centuries in various forms.
What About the Flood of Noah?
According to the Bible, the Flood was a worldwide event in which God sent a great deluge to destroy all living creatures on Earth, with the exception of those on the Ark built by Noah. The story of the Flood is found in the Book of Genesis, chapters 6-9.
The Bible says that the floodwaters came from multiple sources. It states that “the fountains of the deep and the windows of the heavens were opened” (Gen 7:11), indicating that water came from both underground and from the sky. Additionally, it also says that God caused it to rain for forty days and forty nights. (Gen 7:4)
In ancient Judaism, the Flood story was understood as a historical event and was often interpreted as God’s punishment for the wickedness of humanity. The historical account was seen as a reminder of God’s power and authority and a warning of the consequences of disobedience.
In the New Testament, Jesus and the early Christian writers did not comment specifically on the historical nature of the Flood story, but they did make reference to it in their teachings. For example, Jesus compared the coming of the Son of Man to the days of Noah, when “they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all” (Matthew 24:38-39). This passage implies that Jesus viewed the Flood as a real event and a warning of the coming judgment.
The apostle Peter also referred to the flood as a historical event and a warning of God’s judgment in 2 Peter 3:5-7. He wrote, “5 For they deliberately overlook this fact, that the heavens existed long ago, and the earth was formed out of water and through water by the word of God, 6 through which the world at that time was destroyed, being flooded with water. 7 But by the same word the heavens and earth that now exist are stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.”
In summary, ancient servants of God, including Jesus, viewed the Flood as a real historical event, often as a warning of God’s judgment and power.
The Floodwaters of Noah
The amount of water on Earth, including the water in the oceans, underground aquifers, and ice caps, is sufficient to cover the entire surface of the Earth to a depth of several kilometers, as described in the Bible. We may also point to the existence of large fossil deposits and the discovery of marine fossils on mountaintops as evidence that the Earth has been covered by water in the past.
We may also argue that many ancient cultures have a flood story, which they argue lends credibility to the idea that a global flood occurred. We may also point to the existence of the Grand Canyon, which they argue could have been formed rapidly by a large flood, as evidence of a flood.
We may also point to the scientific study of hydrodynamics and sedimentology, which they argue, shows that a global flood could have occurred, as the laws of physics and chemistry would have allowed for the movement and deposition of large amounts of sediment and water.
For the Flood to have occurred as described in the Bible, the pre-Flood Earth must have been significantly different from the Earth we know today. The pre-Flood Earth would have had a different climate and weather patterns, possibly a result of a canopy of water vapor in the atmosphere. This canopy would have created a more temperate and uniform climate, allowing for the growth of lush vegetation and the existence of giant animals such as dinosaurs.
The pre-Flood Earth would have had a different geology, possibly with a lack of plate tectonics, which would have resulted in the lack of mountains and valleys and the absence of erosion. This would have allowed for the formation of extensive coal and oil deposits.
It may be argued that pre-Flood Earth would have had a different hydrologic cycle, possibly with a lack of rain and a different distribution of water, which would have allowed for the formation of underground aquifers and a different distribution of water on the surface.
For the Flood to have occurred as described in the Bible, the sea basins would have had to have been shallower than they are today. If the sea basins were as deep as they are now, the floodwaters would not have been able to cover the entire surface of the Earth to a depth of several kilometers, as described in the Bible. The shallower sea basins would have created a different distribution of land and water on the Earth’s surface, which would have allowed for the formation of extensive coal and oil deposits. It may be argued that the shallower sea basins would have had a different hydrologic cycle, possibly with a lack of rain and a different distribution of water, which would have allowed for the formation of underground aquifers and a different distribution of water on the surface.
The mountains were lower, and the sea basins shallower before the Flood. If the mountains were as high as they are now and the sea basins as deep, the floodwaters would not have been able to cover the entire surface of the Earth to a depth of several kilometers, as described in the Bible. We may also point to the existence of marine fossils on mountaintops as evidence that the Earth’s surface was once covered by water and that the mountains were lower. We may also argue that the lower mountains would have allowed for the formation of extensive coal and oil deposits as well as a different hydrologic cycle.
For the Flood to have occurred as described in the Bible, the waters of the Flood must have receded and returned to their original sources. We may argue that, after the Flood, the waters receded due to the movement of tectonic plates and the formation of new ocean basins and land masses, thus causing the water to retreat and creating the current geography.
We may also argue that the floodwaters would have returned to their original sources, such as underground aquifers, and that some of the water would have evaporated and formed the Earth’s current water cycle. We may also point to the existence of large fossil deposits and the discovery of marine fossils on mountaintops as evidence that the floodwaters receded and returned to their original sources.
Additionally, we may argue that the floodwaters would have caused the formation of various landforms and geological features, such as canyons and valleys, as well as the deposition of large amounts of sediment.
The Bible authors got their information from a superhuman intelligence, specifically from God. The Bible is not just a collection of stories but a revelation of God’s word and his actions in the world. The Bible’s information, including the Flood’s account, is not a product of human imagination or natural observation but rather divinely inspired and communicated to the Bible authors. The Bible is unique among ancient texts in that it claims to be the revelation of the one true God and that it has not been miraculously preserved but rather miraculously restored through the work of dozens of textual scholars over four centuries to its original form without error.
The Bible’s historical and scientific accuracy and its moral and spiritual teachings demonstrate that it is of supernatural origin. The Bible has been corroborated by archaeological finds and fulfilled prophecy, further supporting the argument that superhuman intelligence revealed it.
