GALATIANS

CHAPTER 1

1 ΠαῦλοςPaul ἀπόστολος,apostle, οὐκnot ἀπ’from ἀνθρώπωνmen οὐδὲnor δι’through ἀνθρώπουman ἀλλὰbut διὰthrough ἸησοῦJesus ΧριστοῦChrist καὶand θεοῦGod πατρὸςFather τοῦthe (one) ἐγείραντοςhaving raised αὐτὸνhim ἐκout of νεκρῶν,dead (ones), 2 καὶand οἱthe σὺνtogether with ἐμοὶme πάντεςall ἀδελφοί,brothers, ταῖςto the ἐκκλησίαιςecclesias τῆςof the Γαλατίας·Galatia;

6 ΘαυμάζωI am wondering ὅτιthat οὕτωςthus ταχέωςquickly μετατίθεσθεyou are being transferred ἀπὸfrom τοῦthe (one) καλέσαντοςhaving called ὑμᾶςyou ἐνin χάριτιgrace Χριστοῦof Christ εἰςinto ἕτερονdifferent εὐαγγέλιον,good news, 7 ὃwhich οὐκnot ἔστινis ἄλλο·another; εἰif μήnot τινέςsome εἰσινare οἱthe (ones) ταράσσοντεςagitating ὑμᾶςyou καὶand θέλοντεςwilling μεταστρέψαιto turn onto other side τὸthe εὐαγγέλιονgood news τοῦof the χριστοῦ.Christ. 8 ἀλλὰBut καὶalso ἐὰνif ever ἡμεῖςwe ἢor ἄγγελοςangel ἐξout of οὐρανοῦheaven εὐαγγελίσηταιshould declare as good news ὑμῖνto you παρ’beside ὃwhich εὐηγγελισάμεθαwe declared as good news ὑμῖν,to you, ἀνάθεμαanathema ἔστω.let him be. 9 ὡςAs προειρήκαμεν,we have said before, καὶalso ἄρτιright now πάλινagain λέγω,I am saying, εἴif τιςanyone ὑμᾶςyou εὐαγγελίζεταιis declaring good news to παρ’beside ὃwhich  παρελάβετε,you received alongside, ἀνάθεμαanathema ἔστω.let him be.

10 ἌρτιRight now γὰρfor ἀνθρώπουςmen πείθωam I persuading ἢor τὸνthe θεόν;God? ἢOr ζητῶam I seeking ἀνθρώποιςto men ἀρέσκειν;to be pleasing? εἰIf ἔτιyet ἀνθρώποιςto men ἤρεσκον,I was pleasing, Χριστοῦof Christ δοῦλοςslave οὐκnot ἂνlikely ἤμην.I was. 11 γνωρίζωI am making known γὰρfor ὑμῖν,to you, ἀδελφοί,brothers, τὸthe εὐαγγέλιονgood news τὸthe (one) εὐαγγελισθὲνhaving been declared as good news ὑπ’by ἐμοῦme ὅτιthat οὐκnot ἔστινit is κατὰaccording to ἄνθρωπον·man; 12 οὐδὲneither γὰρfor ἐγὼI παρὰbeside ἀνθρώπουof man παρέλαβονI received alongside αὐτό,it, οὔτεnor ἐδιδάχθην,I was taught, ἀλλὰbut δι’through ἀποκαλύψεωςrevelation Ἰησοῦof Jesus Χριστοῦ.Christ.

13 Ἠκούσατεyou heard γὰρfor τὴνthe ἐμὴνmy ἀναστροφήνconduct ποτεsometime ἐνin τῷthe Ἰουδαϊσμῷ,Judaism, ὅτιthat καθ’according to ὑπερβολὴνover-cast ἐδίωκονI was persecuting τὴνthe ἐκκλησίανecclesia τοῦof the θεοῦGod καὶand ἐπόρθουνI was laying waste αὐτήν,it, 14 καὶand προέκοπτονI was striking before ἐνin τῷthe ἸουδαϊσμῷJudaism ὑπὲρover πολλοὺςmany συνηλικιώταςof (same) age with ἐνin τῷthe γένειrace μου,of me, περισσοτέρωςmore abundantly ζηλωτὴςzealous ὑπάρχωνbeing τῶνof the πατρικῶνpaternal μουof me παραδόσεων.traditions. 15 ὍτεWhen δὲbut εὐδόκησενthought well ὁthe θεὸςGod ὁthe (one) ἀφορίσαςhaving defined off μεme ἐκout of κοιλίαςcavity μητρόςof mother μουof me καὶand καλέσαςhaving called διὰthrough τῆςthe χάριτοςgrace αὐτοῦof him 16 ἀποκαλύψαιto reveal τὸνthe υἱὸνSon αὐτοῦof him ἐνin ἐμοὶme ἵναin order that εὐαγγελίζωμαιI may declare as good news αὐτὸνhim ἐνin τοῖςthe ἔθνεσιν,nations, εὐθέωςimmediately οὐnot προσανεθέμηνI put self up toward σαρκὶto flesh καὶand αἵματι,to blood, 17 οὐδὲneither ἀνῆλθονI went up εἰςinto ἸεροσόλυμαJerusalem πρὸςtoward τοὺςthe πρὸbefore ἐμοῦme ἀποστόλους,apostles, ἀλλὰbut ἀπῆλθονI went off εἰςinto ᾿Αραβίαν,Arabia, καὶand πάλινagain ὑπέστρεψαI turned under εἰςinto Δαμασκόν.Damascus.

18 ἜπειταThereupon μετὰafter τρίαthree ἔτηyears ἀνῆλθονI went up εἰςinto ἸεροσόλυμαJerusalem ἱστορῆσαιto visit for inquiry Κηφᾶν,Cephas, καὶand ἐπέμειναI remained upon πρὸςtoward αὐτὸνhim ἡμέραςdays δεκαπέντε·fifteen; 19 ἕτερονdifferent (one) δὲbut τῶνof the ἀποστόλωνapostles οὐκnot εἶδον,I saw, εἰif μὴnot ἸάκωβονJames τὸνthe ἀδελφὸνbrother τοῦof the κυρίου.Lord. 20 ἃWhat (things) δὲbut γράφωI am writing ὑμῖν,to you, ἰδοὺlook ἐνώπιονin sight τοῦof the θεοῦGod ὅτιthat οὐnot ψεύδομαι.I am lying.

21 ἔπειταThereupon ἦλθονI came εἰςinto τὰthe κλίματαslopes τῆςof the ΣυρίαςSyria καὶand τῆςof the Κιλικίας.Cilicia. 22 ἤμηνI was δὲbut ἀγνοούμενοςbeing unknown τῷof the προσώπῳface ταῖςto the ἐκκλησίαιςecclesias τῆςof the ἸουδαίαςJudea ταῖςthe (ones) ἐνin Χριστῷ,Christ, 23 μόνονonly δὲbut ἀκούοντεςhearing ἦσανthey were ὅτιthat ὉThe (one) διώκωνpersecuting ἡμᾶςus ποτὲsometime νῦνnow εὐαγγελίζεταιis declaring as good news τὴνthe πίστινfaith ἥνwhich ποτεsometime ἐπόρθει,he was laying waste, 24 καὶand ἐδόξαζονthey were glorifying ἐνin ἐμοὶme τὸνthe θεόν.God

CHAPTER 2

1 ἜπειταThereupon διὰthrough δεκατεσσάρωνfourteen ἐτῶνyears πάλινagain ἀνέβηνI stepped up εἰςinto ἸεροσόλυμαJerusalem μετὰwith Βαρνάβα,Barnabas, συνπαραλαβὼνhaving taken along with καὶalso Τίτον·Titus; 2 ἀνέβηνI stepped up δὲbut κατὰaccording to ἀποκάλυψιν·revelation; καὶand ἀνεθέμηνI put up αὐτοῖςto them τὸthe εὐαγγέλιονgood news ὃwhich κηρύσσωI am preaching ἐνin τοῖςthe ἔθνεσιν,nations, κατ’according to ἰδίανown [place] δὲbut τοῖςto the (ones) δοκοῦσιν,seeming, μήnot πωςsomehow εἰςinto κενὸνempti (ness) τρέχωI may be running ἢor ἔδραμον.I ran. 3 ἀλλ’But οὐδὲnot-but ΤίτοςTitus ὁthe (one) σὺνtogether with ἐμοί,me, ἝλληνGreek ὤν,being, ἠναγκάσθηwas put under necessity περιτμηθῆναι·to be circumcised; 4 διὰthrough δὲbut τοὺςthe παρεισάκτουςled into alongside ψευδαδέλφους,false brothers, οἵτινεςwho παρεισῆλθονcame into alongside κατασκοπῆσαιto look down at τὴνthe ἐλευθερίανfreedom ἡμῶνof us ἣνwhich ἔχομενwe are having ἐνin ΧριστῷChrist Ἰησοῦ,Jesus, ἵναin order that ἡμᾶςus καταδουλώσουσιν,—they will enslave down,— 5 οἷςto whom οὐδὲnot-but πρὸςto ὥρανhour εἴξαμενwe yielded♣ τῇin the ὑποταγῇ,subjection, ἵναin order that   ἡthe ἀλήθειαtruth τοῦof the εὐαγγελίουgood news διαμείνῃmight remain through πρὸςto ὑμᾶς.you.

6 ἀπὸFrom δὲbut τῶνthe (ones) δοκούντωνseeming εἶναίto be τι—something— ὁποῖοίof what sort ποτεsometime ἦσανthey were οὐδένnothing μοιto me διαφέρει—it is differing— πρόσωπονface ὁthe θεὸςGod ἀνθρώπουof man οὐnot λαμβάνει—is receiving— ἐμοὶto me γὰρfor οἱthe (ones) δοκοῦντεςseeming οὐδὲνnothing προσανέθεντο,they put up toward, 7 ἀλλὰbut τοὐναντίονthe (thing) in against ἰδόντες(ones) having seen ὅτιthat πεπίστευμαιI have been entrusted with τὸthe εὐαγγέλιονgood news τῆςof the ἀκροβυστίαςuncircumcision καθὼςaccording as ΠέτροςPeter τῆςof the περιτομῆς,circumcision, 8 ὁthe (one) γὰρfor ἐνεργήσαςhaving worked within Πέτρῳto Peter εἰςinto ἀποστολὴνapostleship τῆςof the περιτομῆςcircumcision ἐνήργησενhe worked in καὶalso ἐμοὶto me εἰςinto τὰthe ἔθνη,nations, 9 καὶand γνόντεςhaving known τὴνthe χάρινgrace τὴνthe (one) δοθεῖσάνgiven μοι,to me, ἸάκωβοςJames καὶand ΚηφᾶςCephas καὶand Ἰωάνης,John, οἱthe (ones) δοκοῦντεςseeming στύλοιpillars εἶναι,to be, δεξιὰςright [hands] ἔδωκανthey gave ἐμοὶto me καὶand Βαρνάβᾳto Barnabas κοινωνίας,of sharing, ἵναin order that ἡμεῖςwe εἰςinto τὰthe ἔθνη,nations, αὐτοὶthey δὲbut εἰςinto τὴνthe περιτομήν·circumcision; 10 μόνονonly τῶνof the πτωχῶνpoor (ones) ἵναin order that μνημονεύωμεν,we may remember, ὃwhich καὶalso ἐσπούδασαI speeded up αὐτὸvery τοῦτοthis (thing) ποιῆσαι.to do.

11 ὍτεWhen δὲbut ἦλθενcame ΚηφᾶςCephas εἰςinto ᾿Αντιόχειαν,Antioch, κατὰdown on πρόσωπονface αὐτῷto him ἀντέστην,I stood against, ὅτιbecause κατεγνωσμένοςhaving been known down on ἦν·he was; 12 πρὸbefore τοῦthe γὰρfor ἐλθεῖνto come τινὰςsome (ones) ἀπὸfrom ἸακώβουJames μετὰwith τῶνthe ἐθνῶνnations συνήσθιεν·he was eating together; ὅτεwhen δὲbut ἦλθον,they came, ὑπέστελλενhe was withdrawing καὶand ἀφώριζενwas defining off ἑαυτόν,himself, φοβούμενοςfearing τοὺςthe (ones) ἐκout of περιτομῆς.circumcision. 13 καὶAnd συνυπεκρίθησανthey made pretense together αὐτῷto him καὶalso οἱthe λοιποὶleftover Ἰουδαῖοι,Jews, ὥστεas-and καὶalso ΒαρνάβαςBarnabas συναπήχθηwas led off together αὐτῶνof them τῇto the ὑποκρίσει.hypocrisy. 14 ἀλλ’But ὅτεwhen εἶδονI saw ὅτιthat οὐκnot ὀρθοποδοῦσινthey are walking straight πρὸςtoward τὴνthe ἀλήθειανtruth τοῦof the εὐαγγελίου,good news, εἶπονI said τῷto the ΚηφᾷCephas ἔμπροσθενin front πάντωνof all (ones) ΕἰIf σὺyou ἸουδαῖοςJew ὑπάρχωνbeing ἐθνικῶςnation-like καὶand οὐκnot ἸουδαϊκῶςJewish-like ζῇς,are living, πῶςhow τὰthe ἔθνηnations ἀναγκάζειςare you putting under necessity Ἰουδαΐζειν;to be Judaizing?

15 ἩμεῖςWe φύσειto nature ἸουδαῖοιJews καὶand οὐκnot ἐξout of ἐθνῶνnations ἁμαρτωλοί,sinners, 16 εἰδότεςhaving known δὲbut ὅτιthat οὐnot δικαιοῦταιis being justified ἄνθρωποςman ἐξout of ἔργωνworks νόμουof law ἐὰνif ever μὴnot διὰthrough πίστεωςfaith Χριστοῦof Christ Ἰησοῦ,Jesus, καὶalso ἡμεῖςwe εἰςinto ΧριστὸνChrist ἸησοῦνJesus ἐπιστεύσαμεν,we believed, ἵναin order that δικαιωθῶμενwe might be justified ἐκout of πίστεωςfaith Χριστοῦof Christ καὶand οὐκnot ἐξout of ἔργωνworks νόμου,of law, ὅτιbecause ἐξout of ἔργωνworks νόμουof law οὐnot δικαιωθήσεταιwill be justified πᾶσαevery σάρξ.flesh. 17 εἰIf δὲbut ζητοῦντες(ones) seeking δικαιωθῆναιto be justified ἐνin ΧριστῷChrist εὑρέθημενwe were found καὶalso αὐτοὶvery ἁμαρτωλοί,sinners, ἆραreally ΧριστὸςChrist ἁμαρτίαςof sin διάκονος;servant? μὴNot γένοιτο·may it occur; 18 εἰif γὰρfor ἃwhat (things) κατέλυσαI loosed down ταῦταthese (things) πάλινagain οἰκοδομῶ,I am building up, παραβάτηνtransgressor ἐμαυτὸνmyself συνιστάνω.I am constituting. 19 ἐγὼI γὰρfor διὰthrough νόμουlaw νόμῳto law ἀπέθανονI died ἵναin order that θεῷto God ζήσω·I might live; 20 Χριστῷto Christ συνεσταύρωμαι·I have been put on cross together. ζῶI am living δὲbut οὐκέτιnot yet ἐγώ,I, ζῇis living δὲbut ἐνin ἐμοὶme Χριστός·Christ; ὃwhich δὲbut νῦνnow ζῶI am living ἐνin σαρκί,flesh, ἐνin πίστειfaith ζῶI am living τῇto the (one) τοῦof the υἱοῦSon τοῦof the θεοῦGod τοῦof the (one) ἀγαπήσαντόςhaving loved μεme καὶand παραδόντοςhaving given beside ἑαυτὸνhimself ὑπὲρover ἐμοῦ.me. 21 ΟὐκNot ἀθετῶI am putting aside τὴνthe χάρινgrace τοῦof the θεοῦ·God; εἰif γὰρfor διὰthrough νόμουlaw δικαιοσύνη,righteousness, ἄραreally ΧριστὸςChrist δωρεὰν[as] free gift ἀπέθανεν.he died.

CHAPTER 3

1 ῏ΩO ἀνόητοιsenseless Γαλάται,Galatians, τίςwho ὑμᾶςyou ἐβάσκανεν,bewitched, οἷςto whom κατ’according to ὀφθαλμοὺςeyes ἸησοῦςJesus ΧριστὸςChrist προεγράφηwas written before ἐσταυρωμένος;having been put on cross? 2 τοῦτοThis μόνονonly θέλωI am willing μαθεῖνto learn ἀφ’from ὑμῶν,you, ἐξout of ἔργωνworks νόμουof law τὸthe πνεῦμαspirit ἐλάβετεyou received ἢor ἐξout of ἀκοῆςhearing πίστεως;of faith? 3 οὕτωςThus ἀνόητοίsenseless (ones) ἐστε;you are? ἐναρξάμενοιHaving begun in πνεύματιto spirit νῦνnow σαρκὶto flesh ἐπιτελεῖσθε;are you being brought to end upon? 4 τοσαῦταSo many (things) ἐπάθετεyou suffered εἰκῇ;in vain? εἴIf γεin fact καὶalso εἰκῇ.in vain. 5 ὁThe (one) οὖνtherefore ἐπιχορηγῶνsupplying upon ὑμῖνto you τὸthe πνεῦμαspirit καὶand ἐνεργῶνworking within δυνάμειςpowers ἐνin ὑμῖνyou ἐξout of ἔργωνworks νόμουof law ἤor ἐξout of ἀκοῆςhearing πίστεως;of faith? 6 καθὼςAccording as ᾿ΑβραὰμAbraham ἐπίστευσενbelieved τῷto the Θεῷ,God, καὶand ἐλογίσθηit was reckoned αὐτῷto him εἰςinto δικαιοσύνην.righteousness.

7 ΓινώσκετεAre you knowing ἄραreally ὅτιthat οἱthe (ones) ἐκout of πίστεως,faith, οὗτοιthese υἱοίsons εἰσινare ᾿Αβραάμ.of Abraham. 8 προϊδοῦσαHaving seen before δὲbut ἡthe γραφὴscripture ὅτιthat ἐκout of πίστεωςfaith δικαιοῖis justifying τὰthe ἔθνηnations ὁthe θεὸςGod προευηγγελίσατοdeclared beforehand as good news τῷto the ᾿ΑβραὰμAbraham ὅτιthat ᾿ΕνευλογηθήσονταιWill be blessed within ἐνin σοὶyou πάνταall τὰthe ἔθνη.nations. 9 ὥστεAs-and οἱthe (ones) ἐκout of πίστεωςfaith εὐλογοῦνταιare being blessed σὺνtogether with τῷthe πιστῷfaithful ᾿Αβραάμ.Abraham.

10 ὍσοιAs many as γὰρfor ἐξout of ἔργωνworks νόμουof law εἰσὶνthey are ὑπὸunder κατάρανcurse εἰσίν,they are, γέγραπταιit has been written γὰρfor ὅτιthat ᾿ΕπικατάρατοςCursed upon πᾶςevery (one) ὃςwho οὐκnot ἐμμένειis remaining in πᾶσινto all τοῖςthe (things) γεγραμμένοιςhaving been written ἐνin τῷthe βιβλίῳlittle book τοῦof the νόμουLaw τοῦof the ποιῆσαιto do αὐτά.them. 11 ὅτιThat δὲbut ἐνin νόμῳlaw οὐδεὶςno one δικαιοῦταιis being justified παρὰbeside τῷthe θεῷGod δῆλον,evident, ὅτιbecause ὉThe δίκαιοςrighteous (one) ἐκout of πίστεωςfaith ζήσεται,he will live, 12 ὁthe δὲbut νόμοςLaw οὐκnot ἔστινis ἐκout of πίστεως,faith, ἀλλ’but ὉThe (one) ποιήσαςhaving done αὐτὰthem ζήσεταιhe will live ἐνin αὐτοῖς.these. 13 ΧριστὸςChrist ἡμᾶςus ἐξηγόρασενbought out ἐκout of τῆςthe κατάραςcurse τοῦof the νόμουLaw γενόμενος[he] having become ὑπὲρover ἡμῶνus κατάρα,curse, ὅτιbecause γέγραπταιit has been written ᾿ΕπικατάρατοςCursed upon πᾶςevery (one) ὁthe κρεμάμενοςhanging self ἐπὶupon ξύλου,wood, 14 ἵναin order that εἰςinto τὰthe ἔθνηnations ἡthe εὐλογίαblessing τοῦof the ᾿ΑβραὰμAbraham γένηταιmight come to be ἐνin ἸησοῦJesus Χριστῷ,Christ, ἵναin order that τὴνthe ἐπαγγελίανpromise τοῦof the πνεύματοςspirit λάβωμενwe might receive διὰthrough τῆςthe πίστεως.faith.

15 ᾿Αδελφοί,Brothers, κατὰaccording to ἄνθρωπονman λέγω·I am saying; ὅμωςthough ἀνθρώπουof man κεκυρωμένηνhaving been made valid διαθήκηνcovenant οὐδεὶςno one ἀθετεῖis putting aside ἢor ἐπιδιατάσσεται.is setting orderly upon. 16 τῷTo the δὲbut ᾿ΑβραὰμAbraham ἐρρέθησανwere said αἱthe ἐπαγγελίαιpromises καὶand τῷto the σπέρματιseed αὐτοῦ·of him; οὐnot λέγειit is saying ΚαὶAnd τοῖςto the σπέρμασιν,seeds, ὡςas ἐπὶupon πολλῶν,many, ἀλλ’but ὡςas ἐφ’upon ἑνόςone ΚαὶAnd τῷto the σπέρματίseed σου,of you, ὅςwho ἐστινis Χριστός.Christ. 17 τοῦτοThis (thing) δὲbut λέγω·I am saying; διαθήκηνcovenant προκεκυρωμένηνhaving been made valid before ὑπὸby τοῦthe θεοῦGod ὁthe μετὰafter τετρακόσιαfour hundred καὶand τριάκονταthirty ἔτηyears γεγονὼςhaving come to be νόμοςLaw οὐκnot ἀκυροῖ,is making invalid, εἰςinto τὸthe καταργῆσαιto make ineffective τὴνthe ἐπαγγελίαν.promise. 18 εἰIf γὰρfor ἐκout of νόμουlaw ἡthe κληρονομία,inheritance, οὐκέτιnot yet ἐξout of ἐπαγγελίας·promise; τῷto the δὲbut ᾿ΑβραὰμAbraham δι’through ἐπαγγελίαςpromise κεχάρισταιhas graciously given ὁthe θεός.God.

19 ΤίWhy οὖνtherefore ὁthe νόμος;Law? τῶνOf the παραβάσεωνtransgressions χάρινthanks προσετέθη,it was put toward, ἄχριςuntil ἂνlikely ἔλθῃshould come τὸthe σπέρμαseed ᾧto whom ἐπήγγελται,it has been promised, διαταγεὶςhaving been set through orderly δι’through ἀγγέλωνangels ἐνin χειρὶhand μεσίτου·of mediator; 20 ὁthe δὲbut μεσίτηςmediator ἑνὸςof one οὐκnot ἔστιν,he is, ὁthe δὲbut θεὸςGod εἷςone ἐστίν.is. 21 ὁThe οὖνtherefore νόμοςLaw κατὰdown on τῶνthe ἐπαγγελιῶνpromises τοῦof the θεοῦ;God? μὴNot γένοιτο·may it occur; εἰif γὰρfor ἐδόθηwas given νόμοςlaw ὁthe (one) δυνάμενοςbeing able ζωοποιῆσαι,to make alive, ὄντωςessentially ἐνin νόμῳlaw ἂνlikely ἦνwas ἡthe δικαιοσύνη.righteousness. 22 ἀλλὰBut συνέκλεισενshut up together ἡthe γραφὴScripture τὰthe πάνταall (things) ὑπὸunder ἁμαρτίανsin ἵναin order that ἡthe ἐπαγγελίαpromise ἐκout of πίστεωςfaith Ἰησοῦof Jesus ΧριστοῦChrist δοθῇmight be given τοῖςto the (ones) πιστεύουσιν.believing.

23 ΠρὸBefore τοῦthe δὲbut ἐλθεῖνto come τὴνthe πίστινfaith ὑπὸunder νόμονlaw ἐφρουρούμεθαwe were being kept under watch συνκλειόμενοιbeing shut up together εἰςinto τὴνthe μέλλουσανbeing about πίστινfaith ἀποκαλυφθῆναι.to be revealed. 24 ὥστεAs-and ὁthe νόμοςlaw παιδαγωγὸςpedagogue ἡμῶνof us γέγονενhas become εἰςinto Χριστόν,Christ, ἵναin order that ἐκout of πίστεωςfaith δικαιωθῶμεν·we might be justified; 25 ἐλθούσηςhaving come δὲbut τῆςof the πίστεωςfaith οὐκέτιnot yet ὑπὸunder παιδαγωγόνpedagogue ἐσμεν.we are.

26 ΠάντεςAll γὰρfor υἱοὶsons θεοῦof God ἐστὲyou are διὰthrough τῆςthe πίστεωςfaith ἐνin ΧριστῷChrist Ἰησοῦ.Jesus. 27 ὅσοιAs many as γὰρfor εἰςinto ΧριστὸνChrist ἐβαπτίσθητε,you were baptized, ΧριστὸνChrist ἐνεδύσασθε·you put on selves; 28 οὐκnot ἔνιthere is ἸουδαῖοςJew οὐδὲnot-but Ἕλλην,Greek, οὐκnot ἔνιthere is δοῦλοςslave οὐδὲnor ἐλεύθερος,freeman, οὐκnot ἔνιthere is ἄρσενmale (thing) καὶand θῆλυ·female (thing); πάντεςall γὰρfor ὑμεῖςyou εἷςone ἐστὲyou are ἐνin ΧριστῷChrist Ἰησοῦ.Jesus. 29 εἰIf δὲbut ὑμεῖςyou Χριστοῦ,of Christ, ἄραreally τοῦof the ᾿ΑβραὰμAbraham σπέρμαseed ἐστέ,you are, κατ’according to ἐπαγγελίανpromise κληρονόμοι.heirs.

1 ΛέγωI am saying δέ,but, ἐφ’upon ὅσονhow much χρόνονtime ὁthe κληρονόμοςheir νήπιόςbabe ἐστιν,he is, οὐδὲνnothing διαφέρειhe is differing δούλουof slave κύριοςlord πάντωνof all (things) ὤν,being, 2 ἀλλὰbut ὑπὸunder ἐπιτρόπουςmen in charge ἐστὶhe is καὶand οἰκονόμουςhouse administrators ἄχριuntil τῆςthe προθεσμίας[day] before appointed τοῦof the πατρός.father. 3 οὕτωςThus καὶalso ἡμεῖς,we, ὅτεwhen ἦμενwe were νήπιοι,babes, ὑπὸunder τὰthe στοιχεῖαelementary things τοῦof the κόσμουworld ἤμεθαwe were δεδουλωμένοι·having been enslaved; 4 ὅτεwhen δὲbut ἦλθενcame τὸthe πλήρωμαfullness τοῦof the χρόνου,time, ἐξαπέστειλενsent off out ὁthe θεὸςGod τὸνthe υἱὸνSon αὐτοῦ,of him, γενόμενονhaving come to be ἐκout of γυναικός,woman, γενόμενονhaving come to be ὑπὸunder νόμον,law, 5 ἵναin order that τοὺςthe (ones) ὑπὸunder νόμονlaw ἐξαγοράσῃ,he might buy out, ἵναin order that τὴνthe υἱοθεσίανplacing as son ἀπολάβωμεν.we might receive from.

6 ὍτιBecause δέbut ἐστεyou are υἱοί,sons, ἐξαπέστειλενsent off out ὁthe θεὸςGod τὸthe πνεῦμαspirit τοῦof the υἱοῦSon αὐτοῦof him εἰςinto τὰςthe καρδίαςhearts ἡμῶν,of us, κρᾶζονcrying out ᾿ΑββάAbba ὁthe πατήρ.Father. 7 ὥστεAs-and οὐκέτιnot yet εἶyou are δοῦλοςslave ἀλλὰbut υἱός·son; εἰif δὲbut υἱός,son, καὶalso κληρονόμοςheir διὰthrough θεοῦ.God.

8 ᾿ΑλλὰBut τότεthen μὲνindeed οὐκnot εἰδότεςhaving known θεὸνGod, ἐδουλεύσατεyou slaved τοῖςto the (ones) φύσειto nature μὴnot οὖσιto (ones) being θεοῖς·gods; 9 νῦνnow δὲbut γνόντεςhaving known θεόν,God, μᾶλλονrather δὲbut γνωσθέντεςhaving been known ὑπὸby θεοῦ,God, πῶςhow ἐπιστρέφετεare you turning upon πάλινagain ἐπὶupon τὰthe ἀσθενῆweak καὶand πτωχὰpoor στοιχεῖα,elementary things, οἷςto which πάλινagain ἄνωθενfrom up above δουλεῦσαιto slave θέλετε;you are willing? 10 ἡμέραςDays παρατηρεῖσθεyou are observing beside καὶand μῆναςmonths καὶand καιροὺςappointed times καὶand ἐνιαυτούς.years. 11 φοβοῦμαιI am fearing for ὑμᾶςyou μήnot πωςsomehow εἰκῇin vain κεκοπίακαI have labored εἰςinto ὑμᾶς.you.

12 ΓίνεσθεBe becoming ὡςas ἐγώ,I, ὅτιbecause κἀγὼI also ὡςas ὑμεῖς,you, ἀδελφοί,brothers, δέομαιI am supplicating ὑμῶν.of you. οὐδένNothing μεme ἠδικήσατε·you treated unrighteously; 13 οἴδατεyou have known δὲbut ὅτιthat δι’through ἀσθένειανweakness τῆςof the σαρκὸςflesh εὐηγγελισάμηνI declared good news ὑμῖνto you τὸthe (thing) πρότερον,former, 14 καὶand τὸνthe πειρασμὸνtesting ὑμῶνof you ἐνin τῇthe σαρκίflesh μουof me οὐκnot ἐξουθενήσατεyou treated as nothing οὐδὲnot-but ἐξεπτύσατε,you spit out, ἀλλὰbut ὡςas ἄγγελονangel θεοῦof God ἐδέξασθέyou received με,me, ὡςas ΧριστὸνChrist Ἰησοῦν.Jesus. 15 ποῦWhere οὖνtherefore ὁthe μακαρισμὸςhappiness ὑμῶν;of you? μαρτυρῶI am bearing witness γὰρfor ὑμῖνto you ὅτιthat εἰif δυνατὸνpossible τοὺςthe ὀφθαλμοὺςeyes ὑμῶνof you ἐξορύξαντεςhaving gouged out ἐδώκατέyou gave μοι.to me. 16 ὥστεAs-and ἐχθρὸςenemy ὑμῶνof you γέγοναI have become ἀληθεύωνspeaking truth ὑμῖν;to you? 17 ζηλοῦσινThey are being zealous over ὑμᾶςyou οὐnot καλῶς,finely, ἀλλὰbut ἐκκλεῖσαιto shut out ὑμᾶςyou θέλουσιν,they are willing, ἵναin order that αὐτοὺςthem ζηλοῦτε.you are being zealous over. 18 καλὸνFine δὲbut ζηλοῦσθαιto be zealously sought ἐνin καλῷfine (thing) πάντοτε,always, καὶand μὴnot μόνονonly ἐνin τῷthe παρεῖναίto be alongside μεme πρὸςtoward ὑμᾶς,you, 19 τεκνίαlittle children μου,of me, οὓςwhom πάλινagain ὠδίνωI am in childbirth pains μέχριςuntil οὗwhich [time] μορφωθῇshould be formed ΧριστὸςChrist ἐνin ὑμῖν·you; 20 ἤθελονI was willing δὲbut παρεῖναιto be alongside πρὸςtoward ὑμᾶςyou ἄρτι,right now, καὶand ἀλλάξαιto alter τὴνthe φωνήνvoice μου,of me, ὅτιbecause ἀποροῦμαιI am knowing no way out ἐνin ὑμῖν.you.

21 ΛέγετέBe you saying μοι,to me, οἱthe (ones) ὑπὸunder νόμονlaw θέλοντεςwilling εἶναι,to be, τὸνthe νόμονLaw οὐκnot ἀκούετε;are you hearing? 22 γέγραπταιIt has been written γὰρfor ὅτιthat ᾿ΑβραὰμAbraham δύοtwo υἱοὺςsons ἔσχεν,had, ἕναone ἐκout of τῆςthe παιδίσκηςservant girl καὶand ἕναone ἐκout of τῆςthe ἐλευθέρας·free [woman]; 23 ἀλλ’but ὁthe (one) μὲνindeed ἐκout of τῆςthe παιδίσκηςservant girl κατὰaccording to σάρκαflesh γεγέννηται,has been generated, ὁthe (one) δὲbut ἐκout of τῆςthe ἐλευθέραςfree [woman] δι’through ἐπαγγελίας.promise. 24 ἅτινάWhich (things) ἐστινis ἀλληγορούμενα·(things) being allegorized; αὗταιthese [women] γάρfor εἰσινare δύοtwo διαθῆκαι,covenants, μίαone μὲνindeed ἀπὸfrom ὄρουςmountain Σινά,Sinai, εἰςinto δουλείανslavery γεννῶσα,becoming parent to, ἥτιςwhich ἐστὶνis Ἅγαρ,Hagar, 25 τὸthe δὲbut ἍγαρHagar ΣινὰSinai ὄροςmountain ἐστὶνis ἐνin τῇthe ᾿Αραβίᾳ,Arabia, συνστοιχεῖis keeping step with δὲbut τῇto the νῦνnow Ἰερουσαλήμ,Jerusalem, δουλεύειshe is in slavery γὰρfor μετὰwith τῶνthe τέκνωνchildren αὐτῆς·of her; 26 ἡthe δὲbut ἄνωupward ἸερουσαλὴμJerusalem ἐλευθέραfree ἐστίν,is, ἥτιςwho ἐστὶνis μήτηρmother ἡμῶν·of us.

27 γέγραπταιIt has been written γάρfor Εὐφράνθητι,Be made well-minded, στεῖραbarren ἡthe (one) οὐnot τίκτουσα·giving birth; ῥῆξονbreak out καὶand βόησον,make loud cry, ἡthe (one) οὐκnot ὠδίνουσα·having childbirth pains; ὅτιbecause πολλὰmany τὰthe τέκναchildren τῆςof the ἐρήμουdesolate μᾶλλονrather ἢthan τῆςof the ἐχούσης(one) having τὸνthe ἄνδρα.male person. 28 ἡμεῖςWe δέ,but, ἀδελφοί,brothers, κατὰaccording to ἸσαὰκIsaac ἐπαγγελίαςof promise τέκναchildren ἐσμέν·we are; 29 ἀλλ’but ὥσπερas-even τότεthen ὁthe (one) κατὰaccording to σάρκαflesh γεννηθεὶςhaving been generated ἐδίωκεwas persecuting τὸνthe (one) κατὰaccording to πνεῦμα,spirit, οὕτωςthus καὶalso νῦν.now. 30 ἀλλὰBut τίwhat λέγειis saying ἡthe γραφή;Scripture? ἜκβαλεThrow out τὴνthe παιδίσκηνservant girl καὶand τὸνthe υἱὸνson αὐτῆς,of her, οὐnot γὰρfor μὴnot κληρονομήσειwill inherit ὁthe υἱὸςson τῆςof the παιδίσκηςservant girl μετὰwith τοῦthe υἱοῦson τῆςof the ἐλευθέρας.free [woman]. 31 διό,Through which, ἀδελφοί,brothers, οὐκnot ἐσμὲνwe are παιδίσκηςof servant girl τέκναchildren ἀλλὰbut τῆςof the ἐλευθέρας.free [woman]

CHAPTER 5

1 ΤῇTo the ἐλευθερίᾳfreedom ἡμᾶςus ΧριστὸςChrist ἠλευθέρωσεν·made free; στήκετεbe you standing οὖνtherefore καὶand μὴnot πάλινagain ζυγῷto yoke δουλείαςof slavery ἐνέχεσθε.—be you having selves in.—

2 ἼδεSee! ἐγὼI ΠαῦλοςPaul λέγωam saying ὑμῖνto you ὅτιthat ἐὰνif ever περιτέμνησθεyou may be being circumcised ΧριστὸςChrist ὑμᾶςyou οὐδὲνnothing ὠφελήσει.he will profit. 3 μαρτύρομαιI bear witness δὲbut πάλινagain παντὶto every ἀνθρώπῳman περιτεμνομένῳbeing circumcised ὅτιthat ὀφειλέτηςdebtor ἐστὶνhe is ὅλονwhole τὸνthe νόμονLaw ποιῆσαι.to do. 4 κατηργήθητεyou were voided ἀπὸfrom ΧριστοῦChrist οἵτινεςwho ἐνin νόμῳlaw δικαιοῦσθε,you are being justified, τῆςof the χάριτοςgrace ἐξεπέσατε.you fell out. 5 ἡμεῖςWe γὰρfor πνεύματιto spirit ἐκout of πίστεωςfaith ἐλπίδαhope δικαιοσύνηςof righteousness ἀπεκδεχόμεθα.we are eagerly awaiting. 6 ἐνIn γὰρfor ΧριστῷChrist ἸησοῦJesus οὔτεneither περιτομήcircumcision τιanything ἰσχύειis having strength οὔτεnor ἀκροβυστία,uncircumcision, ἀλλὰbut πίστιςfaith δι’through ἀγάπηςlove ἐνεργουμένη.working in.

7 ᾿ΕτρέχετεYou were running καλῶς·finely; τίςwho ὑμᾶςyou ἐνέκοψενcut in ἀληθείᾳto truth μὴnot πείθεσθαι;to be yielding to persuasion of? 8 ἡThe πεισμονὴpersuasion οὐκnot ἐκout of τοῦthe (one) καλοῦντοςcalling ὑμᾶς.you. 9 μικρὰLittle ζύμηleaven ὅλονwhole τὸthe φύραμαlump ζυμοῖ.is leavening. 10 ἐγὼI πέποιθαhave been confident εἰςinto ὑμᾶςyou ἐνin κυρίῳLord ὅτιthat οὐδὲνnothing ἄλλοother φρονήσετε·you will mind; ὁthe (one) δὲbut ταράσσωνagitating ὑμᾶςyou βαστάσειwill carry τὸthe κρίμα,judgment, ὅστιςwho ἐὰνif ever ᾖ.he may be. 11 ᾿ΕγὼI δέ,but, ἀδελφοί,brothers, εἰif περιτομὴνcircumcision ἔτιyet κηρύσσω,am preaching, τίwhy ἔτιyet διώκομαι;am I being persecuted? ἄραReally κατήργηταιhas been made ineffective τὸthe σκάνδαλονfall-causer τοῦof the σταυροῦ.cross. 12 ὌφελονI owed καὶalso ἀποκόψονταιwill cut off themselves οἱthe (ones) ἀναστατοῦντεςstirring up ὑμᾶς.you.

13 ὙμεῖςYou γὰρfor ἐπ’upon ἐλευθερίᾳfreedom ἐκλήθητε,you were called, ἀδελφοί·brothers; μόνονonly μὴnot τὴνthe ἐλευθερίανfreedom εἰςinto ἀφορμὴνonrush from τῇto the σαρκί,flesh, ἀλλὰbut διὰthrough τῆςthe ἀγάπηςlove δουλεύετεbe your slaving ἀλλήλοις·to one another; 14 ὁthe γὰρfor πᾶςall νόμοςLaw ἐνin ἑνὶone λόγῳword πεπλήρωται,has been fulfilled, ἐνin τῷthe ᾿ΑγαπήσειςYou will love τὸνthe πλησίονneighbor σουof you ὡςas σεαυτόν.yourself. 15 εἰIf δὲbut ἀλλήλουςone another δάκνετεyou are biting καὶand κατεσθίετε,you are eating down, βλέπετεbe you looking μὴnot ὑπ’by ἀλλήλωνone another ἀναλωθῆτε.you might be consumed up.

16 ΛέγωI am saying δέ,but, πνεύματιto spirit περιπατεῖτεbe you walking καὶand ἐπιθυμίανdesire σαρκὸςof flesh οὐnot μὴnot τελέσητε.you might end up with. 17 ἡThe γὰρfor σὰρξflesh ἐπιθυμεῖis desiring κατὰdown on τοῦthe πνεύματος,spirit, τὸthe δὲbut πνεῦμαspirit κατὰdown on τῆςthe σαρκός,flesh, ταῦταthese (things) γὰρfor ἀλλήλοιςto each other ἀντίκειται,is lying against, ἵναin order that μὴnot ἃwhat (things) ἐὰνif ever   θέλητεyou may be willing ταῦταthese ποιῆτε.you may be doing. 18 εἰIf δὲbut πνεύματιto spirit ἄγεσθε,you are being led, οὐκnot ἐστὲyou are ὑπὸunder νόμον.law.

19 φανερὰManifest δέbut ἐστινis τὰthe ἔργαworks τῆςof the σαρκός,flesh, ἅτινάwhich ἐστινis πορνεία,fornication, ἀκαθαρσία,uncleanness, ἀσέλγεια,loose conduct, 20 εἰδωλολατρία,idolatry, φαρμακία,druggery, ἔχθραι,enmities, ἔρις,strife, ζῆλος,jealousy, θυμοί,angers, ἐριθίαι,contentions, διχοστασίαι,divisions, αἱρέσεις,sects, 21 φθόνοι,envies, μέθαι,drunkennesses, κῶμοι,revelries, καὶand τὰthe ὅμοια(things) like τούτοις,to these, ἃwhich (things) προλέγωI am saying before ὑμῖνto you καθὼςaccording as προεῖπονI said before ὅτιthat οἱthe (ones) τὰthe τοιαῦταsuch (things) πράσσοντεςperforming βασιλείανkingdom θεοῦof God οὐnot κληρονομήσουσιν.they will inherit.

22 ὁThe δὲbut καρπὸςfruit τοῦof the πνεύματόςspirit ἐστινis ἀγάπη,love, χαρά,joy, εἰρήνη,peace, μακροθυμία,longness of spirit, χρηστότης,kindness, ἀγαθωσύνη,goodness, πίστις,faith, 23 πραΰτης,mildness, ἐγκράτεια·self-control; κατὰdown on τῶνthe τοιούτωνsuch (things) οὐκnot ἔστινis νόμος.law. 24 οἱThe (ones) δὲbut τοῦof the χριστοῦChrist ἸησοῦJesus τὴνthe σάρκαflesh ἐσταύρωσανthey put on cross σὺνtogether with τοῖςthe παθήμασινpassions καὶand ταῖςthe ἐπιθυμίαις.desires.

1 ᾿Αδελφοί,Brothers, ἐὰνif ever καὶalso προλημφθῇshould be overtaken ἄνθρωποςman ἔνin τινιsome παραπτώματι,falling beside, ὑμεῖςyou οἱthe πνευματικοὶspiritual (ones) καταρτίζετεbe you adjusting down τὸνthe τοιοῦτονsuch (one) ἐνin πνεύματιspirit πραΰτητος,of mildness, σκοπῶνlooking at σεαυτόν,yourself, μὴnot καὶalso σὺyou πειρασθῇς.should be tempted. 2 ᾿ΑλλήλωνOf one another τὰthe βάρηheavy things βαστάζετε,be you carrying, καὶand οὕτωςthus ἀναπληρώσατεfulfill you τὸνthe νόμονlaw τοῦof the χριστοῦ.Christ. 3 εἰIf γὰρfor δοκεῖis thinking τιςanyone εἶναίto be τιsomething μηδὲνnothing ὤν,being, φρεναπατᾷhe is mentally misleading ἑαυτόν·himself; 4 τὸthe δὲbut ἔργονwork ἑαυτοῦof himself δοκιμαζέτωlet be proving ἕκαστος,each (one), καὶand τότεthen εἰςinto ἑαυτὸνhimself μόνονalone τὸthe καύχημαboasting ἕξειhe will be having καὶand οὐκnot εἰςinto τὸνthe ἕτερον,different (one), 5 ἕκαστοςeach (one) γὰρfor τὸthe ἴδιονown φορτίονload βαστάσει.he will carry.

6 ΚοινωνείτωLet be sharing δὲbut ὁthe (one) κατηχούμενοςbeing sounded down to τὸνthe λόγονword τῷto the (one) κατηχοῦντιsounding down ἐνin πᾶσινall ἀγαθοῖς.good (things).

7 ΜὴNot πλανᾶσθε,be you being made to err, θεὸςGod οὐnot μυκτηρίζεται·is being mocked; ὃwhat γὰρfor ἐὰνif ever σπείρῃmay be sowing ἄνθρωπος,man, τοῦτοthis καὶalso θερίσει·he will reap; 8 ὅτιbecause ὁthe (one) σπείρωνsowing εἰςinto τὴνthe σάρκαflesh ἑαυτοῦof himself ἐκout of τῆςthe σαρκὸςflesh θερίσειwill reap φθοράν,corruption, ὁthe (one) δὲbut σπείρωνsowing εἰςinto τὸthe πνεῦμαspirit ἐκout of τοῦthe πνεύματοςspirit θερίσειhe will reap ζωὴνlife αἰώνιον.everlasting. 9 τὸThe δὲbut καλὸνfine (thing) ποιοῦντεςdoing μὴnot ἐνκακῶμεν,may we be behaving badly in, καιρῷto appointed time γὰρfor ἰδίῳown θερίσομενwe shall reap μὴnot ἐκλυόμενοι.being loosed out. 10 ἌραReally οὖνtherefore ὡςas καιρὸνappointed time ἔχωμεν,we may be having, ἐργαζώμεθαmay we be working τὸthe ἀγαθὸνgood (thing) πρὸςtoward πάντας,all (ones), μάλισταmostly δὲbut πρὸςtoward τοὺςthe οἰκείουςhousehold [members] τῆςof the πίστεως.faith.

11 ἼδετεSee you πηλίκοιςto how large ὑμῖνto you γράμμασινto writings ἔγραψαI wrote τῇto the ἐμῇmy χειρί.hand.

12 ὍσοιAs many as θέλουσινare willing εὐπροσωπῆσαιto make fair face ἐνin σαρκί,flesh, οὗτοιthese (ones) ἀναγκάζουσινare putting under necessity ὑμᾶςyou περιτέμνεσθαι,to be being circumcised, μόνονonly ἵναin order that τῷto the σταυρῷcross τοῦof the χριστοῦChrist Ἰησοῦ—Jesus— μὴnot διώκωνται·they may be being persecuted; 13 οὐδὲnot-but γὰρfor οἱthe (ones) περιτεμνόμενοιbeing circumcised αὐτοὶthey νόμονlaw φυλάσσουσιν,are guarding, ἀλλὰbut θέλουσινthey are willing ὑμᾶςyou περιτέμνεσθαιto be being circumcised ἵναin order that ἐνin τῇthe ὑμετέρᾳyour σαρκὶflesh καυχήσωνται.they might boast. 14 ἐμοὶTo me δὲbut μὴnot γένοιτοmay it occur καυχᾶσθαιto be boasting εἰif μὴnot ἐνin τῷthe σταυρῷcross τοῦof the κυρίουLord ἡμῶνof us ἸησοῦJesus Χριστοῦ,Christ, δι’through οὗwhom ἐμοὶto me κόσμοςworld ἐσταύρωταιhas been put on cross κἀγὼand I κόσμῳ.to world. 15 οὔτεNeither γὰρfor περιτομήcircumcision τιanything ἔστινis οὔτεnor ἀκροβυστία,uncircumcision, ἀλλὰbut καινὴnew κτίσις.creation. 16 καὶAnd ὅσοιas many as τῷto the κανόνι(measuring) reed τούτῳthis στοιχήσουσιν,they will walk orderly, εἰρήνηpeace ἐπ’upon αὐτοὺςthem καὶand ἔλεος,mercy, καὶand ἐπὶupon τὸνthe ἸσραὴλIsrael τοῦof the θεοῦ.God.

17 ΤοῦOf the λοιποῦleftover (thing) κόπουςlabors μοιto me μηδεὶςno one παρεχέτω,let him be having beside, ἐγὼI γὰρfor τὰthe στίγματαbrand marks τοῦof the ἸησοῦJesus ἐνin τῷthe σώματίbody μουof me βαστάζω.I am carrying.

18 ἩThe  χάριςgrace τοῦof the κυρίουLord ἡμῶνof us ἸησοῦJesus ΧριστοῦChrist μετὰwith τοῦthe πνεύματοςspirit ὑμῶν,of you, ἀδελφοί·brothers; ἀμήν.amen.
