For this reason I too, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the holy ones, (Ephesians 1:15)
For this reason I too, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus. Some argue that this is evidence that Paul was not writing this epistle specifically to the Ephesians because he writes here as though the recipients were not known to him when he spent three years with the Ephesians. But this is mere speculation. Paul had not been in Ephesus for several years when he wrote this epistle. Interaction might have been very sparse, if at all, considering the times and how difficult it was to communicate. Likely, he had not heard from them in years since he gave his parting comments to the elders of Ephesus at Miletus. (Acts 20) Therefore, Paul was very grateful that someone had finally gotten word to him in Rome so that he could hear the latest from them. He was now relieved to discover that they were growing and living a holy life, for which he was very thankful. In the early days when Paul had been at Ephesus, when he spoke the things that Jesus had taught, many in Ephesus believed and put faith in Christ Jesus and his teachings. What Jesus Christ taught and has been passed on to all Christians down through the centuries through God’s Word comprises true Christian faith. – Eph. 1:15-17; 4:5.
