Daily Devotional: Be Not Anxious, for I Am Your God — Isaiah 41:10

“Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be anxious, for I am your God. I will fortify you, yes, I will help you, I will really hold on to you with my right hand of righteousness.” — Isaiah 41:10.

Isaiah’s prophecy was spoken during turbulent times. Judah faced political instability, threats from foreign powers, and the looming shadow of exile. The people often felt helpless before the might of nations such as Assyria and Babylon. Yet Jehovah reminded His faithful ones that they need not tremble before men, because He Himself was with them as their God. His presence, His power, and His righteousness provided the assurance they needed. This same promise speaks to all true worshippers today, offering strength for hearts burdened with fear and weighed down with anxiety.

Jehovah begins with two direct commands: “Do not be afraid” and “Do not be anxious.” Fear and anxiety are natural human responses to danger, uncertainty, or overwhelming circumstances. But when these emotions dominate, they rob the believer of peace and trust in God. Jehovah does not dismiss the reality of hardship; instead, He gives the reason His people can lay aside fear: “For I am with you… for I am your God.” His presence and identity are sufficient grounds for courage. Fear thrives in the absence of trust, but faith destroys fear by resting on God’s unchanging character.

Jehovah then follows His command with three promises of action. He says, “I will fortify you.” This means He will impart inner strength when human strength fails. He adds, “I will help you.” His aid is not distant or theoretical; it is personal, timely, and effective. Finally, He assures, “I will really hold on to you with my right hand of righteousness.” The image is tender yet powerful: the righteous hand of the Almighty firmly grasping His servant, refusing to let go. The believer is not left to cling desperately to God; rather, God Himself holds fast to the believer.

The phrase “my right hand of righteousness” underscores that God’s help is always consistent with His holiness, justice, and faithfulness. He does not act arbitrarily or unjustly. His support flows from His righteous nature, ensuring that His people are never abandoned or treated unfairly. Even when surrounded by enemies or adversity, the faithful can rest in the assurance that the Almighty’s strong hand upholds them.

This verse finds its ultimate fulfillment in the Christian life. Jesus told His disciples, “Look! I am with you all the days until the conclusion of the system of things” (Matthew 28:20). The apostle Paul urged believers to “not be anxious over anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your petitions be made known to God” (Philippians 4:6). Through prayer, trust, and reliance on Scripture, Christians experience the same strengthening and upholding that Isaiah described. The Holy Scriptures, breathed out by God, continually remind us of His promises and build in us the faith needed to conquer fear.

To “be not anxious” is not an unrealistic denial of life’s difficulties but a call to shift the weight of our concerns from our own frailty to God’s omnipotence. Anxiety withers under the assurance that Jehovah is present. The believer who clings to this truth finds courage to face opposition, endurance to remain faithful under pressure, and peace to rest securely in God’s care.

In practical terms, living out this verse means approaching each day with the settled conviction that God is enough. It means confronting uncertainty not with despair but with prayerful trust. It means remembering that no matter how fragile we may feel, Jehovah’s hand is steady and unbreakable. The faithful one who turns to God in every anxious moment discovers that His promises are not abstract words but living realities.

Therefore, take hold of the truth declared in Isaiah 41:10. Let the words echo in your heart: “Do not be anxious, for I am your God.” The Creator of heaven and earth is not distant. He is with you, strengthening you, helping you, and holding you fast. Such assurance leaves no room for fear, for in His presence the believer finds lasting peace and unshakable security.
