In a landscape populated by liberal, moderate, and even fake conservative scholars, finding individuals who stand firmly on the doctrine of biblical inerrancy is crucial. These genuine conservative scholars play a pivotal role in defending the faith against the wave of modern skepticism and theological compromise. Here, we’ll discuss ten scholars who demonstrate unwavering commitment to the principle of biblical inerrancy.

Norman L. Geisler

Dr. Norman Geisler was a significant figure in Christian apologetics and philosophy. His robust defense of biblical inerrancy, especially in his book “Inerrancy,” has made him a cornerstone figure for conservatives. Geisler argued for the absolute historical and scientific accuracy of the Bible, thereby affirming its inerrancy in all aspects.

R. C. Sproul

R. C. Sproul was another stalwart defender of biblical inerrancy. His work in Reformed theology emphasized the sufficiency and reliability of Scripture as God’s word. Sproul’s commitment to biblical inerrancy was both academic and pastoral, aimed at equipping the Church to stand firm in its faith.

J. I. Packer

British-born theologian J. I. Packer made a lasting impact on evangelical Christianity. His book “Fundamentalism and the Word of God” presents a compelling argument for taking the Bible as the authoritative, inerrant Word of God. He cautioned against allowing cultural shifts to influence our understanding of Scripture.

Wayne Grudem

Wayne Grudem is recognized for his exhaustive “Systematic Theology,” where he clearly articulates a conservative evangelical understanding of Scripture. Grudem firmly stands on the inerrancy of the Bible and has written extensively to defend this position, particularly against feminist theology and open theism.

John F. MacArthur

John MacArthur is a pastor and educator whose expository preaching underscores his commitment to biblical inerrancy. Through his sermons, books, and the Master’s Seminary, MacArthur consistently affirms that Scripture is inspired, inerrant, and sufficient for all matters of faith and practice.

Daniel B. Wallace

Daniel B. Wallace is a New Testament scholar known for his work in textual criticism. Wallace approaches the manuscripts of the New Testament with the presupposition that they are inerrant in the originals. His work helps to affirm that the New Testament text has been reliably transmitted over time.

Albert Mohler

Albert Mohler serves as the president of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and is an influential figure in conservative evangelicalism. His staunch defense of biblical inerrancy is evident in his writings and public speaking, particularly against challenges from liberal theology and cultural relativism.

Robert L. Thomas

A respected New Testament scholar, Robert L. Thomas’ work in biblical prophecy and Revelation firmly roots him in the conservative camp. His commitment to biblical inerrancy is evident through his literal interpretation of apocalyptic literature, which stands in stark contrast to those who allegorize these texts.

John F. Walvoord

John F. Walvoord, like Thomas, was known for his works on eschatology from a Dispensationalist perspective. He upheld a high view of Scripture, treating prophecies as inerrant predictions that will be literally fulfilled.

D. A. Carson

D. A. Carson has contributed substantially to New Testament studies and is a committed conservative scholar. His book, “The Enduring Authority of the Christian Scriptures,” assembles a range of scholars to defend the inerrancy, historicity, and authority of the Bible.

Edward D. Andrews

Edward D. Andrews is the CEO and President of Christian Publishing House and serves as the Chief Translator of the Updated American Standard Version (UASV). His work is especially notable for his commitment to using a literal translation philosophy, which aligns closely with the principle of biblical inerrancy. Andrews adheres to the objective Historical-Grammatical method of interpretation, eschewing allegorical or typological readings of the text in favor of what the original authors intended to convey.

His work emphasizes the importance of understanding the original languages of the Bible—Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek—to arrive at the most accurate translation. This scholarly rigor exemplifies a strong conservative stance that aims to preserve the integrity of God’s Word. Moreover, Andrews has consistently argued against liberal and moderate interpretations of the Scriptures, further solidifying his conservative position.

His commitment to biblical inerrancy is not just limited to translation work; it also extends to other theological subjects. He supports a range of conservative views, such as rejecting the idea of universal salvation, denying the once-saved-always-saved theology, and asserting that hell is not a place of eternal torment but of eternal destruction. Such stances show a comprehensive conservative worldview, making him a substantial figure in conservative Christian circles.—NOTE: I did not evaluate myself.

The Need for Vigilance Even Among Conservatives

While these scholars stand as beacons of conservative thought and theology, it’s important to remember that vigilance is still needed. Many scholars who later became liberal or moderate started their careers with a conservative outlook. Deviation from the principle of inerrancy is often gradual, which underscores the need for continual discernment and careful evaluation. Thus, one must exercise due diligence in studying the works of these scholars to ensure that their teachings align consistently with the doctrine of absolute inerrancy of the Scriptures.
