The poor is disliked even by his neighbor, but the rich has many friends.—Proverbs. 14:20.

Money also helps a person avoid isolation; the rich man always has friends, though their motives could be questionable. Unfortunately, the poor find that not even their neighbors or friends wish to associate with them. Poverty is bad enough in itself, but it becomes even more painful when it causes you to lose friends.
