Study to Show Thyself Approved Unto God

2 Timothy 2:15 Updated American Standard Version (UASV)

15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed, rightly handling[1] the word of truth.

how-to-study-your-bible1There is no replacement for a regular study of God’s Word, for it is essential along with meditation and a correct understanding of the Word of God. Some might mistakenly think that meditating on what you study is not truly necessary, but they would be highly mistaken. It takes positive, deliberate effort to grasp fully the Word of God. Anyone who says the Bible is easy to understand or a simple book is the one who does not understand it at all. Even the apostle Peter said that the apostle Paul’s letter was “hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction.” (2 Pet. 3:16) Daily personal Bible study should be a part of every Christian’s life. It is by this that we learn of the life of Jesus and of other spiritual men who had God’s approval, and Bible principles for anything in our Christian walk, as well as the will and purposes of the Father. Moreover, we have to spend time in getting a correct understanding of how these things can be rightly applied in our lives today without going beyond what they mean. We should be set apart from Satan’s world, by the way, our lives because we are biblically minded. We need to incorporate God’s way of thinking into our mind and heart, letting it bend our own thinking processes in the proper direction. We use Scripture to guide and direct our lives daily.
