Remain Alert and Stay Awake as You Walk with God

Ephesians 6:12 Updated American Standard Version (UASV)

12 For our wrestling[1] is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world-rulers of this darkness, against the wicked spirit forces in the heavenly places.

It was our love for God that moved us to dedicate our lives to him. Ever since, for many years, we have been steadfast in our determination to have a complete heart toward our heavenly Father. Nevertheless, Satan and his demon horde have not given up on us, nor will they ever until they are abyssed by Christ Jesus. Our figurative spiritual heart is still Satan’s target. Of course, Satan realizes that we are not just going to abandon God abruptly. Therefore, he craftily cunningly, skillfully, cleverly employs “the world” of wicked humankind in an effort to weaken our heartfelt zeal for God gradually over a period of time. (Mark 4:18-19) Why has this method used by Satan for millenniums been so effective? Because by this weakening of our zeal ever so slowly, progressively, steadily, gradually, we are not even aware of it. We are blinded by the Satanic influence of the world of humankind that is alienated from God, which can cause our zeal to diminish and weaken little by little without our ever noticing it. If it goes unchecked, Satan will have succeeded in his effort of reducing our heartfelt zeal for God’s service to something less than what we had initially demonstrated. We need to remain awake and alert, we may not notice a gradual change. – Matthew 24:42; 1 Peter 5:8.
