Excessive Guilt Will Crush You Spiritually
Proverbs 24:16 Updated American standard version (UASV)
16 for a righteous man falls seven times and rises again,
but the wicked stumble in times of calamity.
Some Christians tend to hold onto guilt over sins, which God has already forgiven them. If that is true of you as well, remember that your sin likely pales in comparison to Peter and the other apostles who abandoned Jesus Christ, the Son of God in his hour of need, who were forgiven. God forgave the man who was expelled from the Corinthian congregation for blatant, scandalous immorality but who later repented. (1 Cor. 5:1-5; 2 Cor. 2:6-8) While it is true, sin is sin, God’s Word does differentiate not so serious sins from gross sin and gross sinners, who repented and were forgiven by God. (2 Chron. 33:2, 10-13; 1 Cor. 6:9-11) God will forgive and forgive your past errors if you are genuinely repentant and accept his gracious mercy. The ransom sacrifice of Jesus Christ covers Adamic sin that you have inherited from Adam, human weaknesses but it does not cover your living in sin unrepentantly. If you truly trust in Jesus Christ, you should not be burdened with excessive guilt, which will allow you to serve God with your whole heart, mind, and soul. – Matthew 22:37.
