How Can We Maintain a Secure Hold On the Word of God?

The apostle Paul told the Christians in Rome, “For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.” (Rom. 15:4) We certainly do not want to do anything that would result in our forfeiting our hope.

Walking In the Light

God is “the Father of lights,” and “there is no darkness in him at all.” (James 1:17; 1 John 1:5) The Son said of himself, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12) Christian worshipers of the Father and the Son have the illumination: mentally, emotionally, morally, and spiritually, as “they shine as lights in the world.” (Phil 2:15)

Fully Understanding the Extent of Human Imperfection

The object of this important article is to express the deep sense which humans have their depravity. That sense is derived from the fact that this is not a sudden thought, or mere outward actions or behavior, or offenses committed under the influence of strong temptation, but that it is the result of an entire corruption of his nature - of a deep depravity of heart, running back to the very commencement of our being.
